Lets get metaphysical

Clearly the importance of financial health in a commercial world cannot be ignored but like most mechanisms, to consider one element without paying attention to them all can engender imbalance and mental conflict. Let’s totally disregard all things financial for a moment and consider our overall  well being.  There is a basic benchmark that is used in psychology to measure individual holistic contentment and these comprise three primary components, namely, work, social and emotional. Simply stated, if you are satisifed with your work, your social activity and the fulfillment of  your emotional needs, then you could broadly be considered and probably are a balanced and content individual. Indeed, even if only two are in synch, then you are probably doing OK. If you can only tick one box, then there may be some level of discord in your life and if all three are lacking, then it is highly probable that you are far from content to say the least!Self evident is the fact that if you fall within the ‘one or less boxes’ category that can be ticked, perhaps it’s time for re-evalutation. It could be that there are things you really are not currently in a position to change in themselves but even if that is the case, this does not render you emasculared since what you definitely do control and what you definitely can change is your perception of the item in question. There is a longstanding belief entrenched in the tenets of Buddhism that no thing is good nor bad in itself, only our perception makes it so. This is a powerful device and is extremely useful in our own world view, a world view we constructed from the experiences we had as young children and then stored as our barometers for future events. Our young minds took an event or thing, gave it a name and then used that name for a category that could and would be  used for defining similar future  events even though the original may have absolutely no correlation to the numerous similar events that will have taken place thereafter. For example, little Johnny eats some undercooked chicken and gets very sick; conclusion? Eating chicken is dangerous to eat, consequence? Category danger, chcken inserted therein. A phobia could start depending on the level of interpretation and impact said event had on and from a formative mind and endure long into adulthood and possibly for life. Of course this is a very simplistic application of what is a very common theme which recurs time after time in its manifestation. More to follow…..
